Spike in Bicycle Thefts

Mission Division has seen a spike in bicycle thefts recently. These have mainly occurred in the area of Van Nuys Bl & Roscoe Bl at the Panorama Mall. In most cases the bikes are locked to a bike rack. It is a good idea to invest in a heavy duty U-lock for one's bike. Although no lock is cut proof 100%, U-Locks are very difficult to cut and take apart compared to the basic chain lock which can be cut with heavy chain cutters.

There are many types of heavy duty bike locks out there for one to purchase. It all depends on the bike and style one prefers.

Be smart, keep your bikes secure when out in public and keep them locked and stored while at home. Make it difficult for criminals to run off with your stuff.

The safety of our Neighborhood is not up to the Police...IT IS OURS!

It is up to everyone that lives in our community to watch out, not only for themselves but, for their neighbors. If you see cars that are parked and not moved for more than 72 hours call 311 and report it. If you see any vandalism, PLEASE report it. If you see someone that obviously doesn't belong or is doing something they shouldn't be, PLEASE report it. Lets keep our neighborhood clean, if you see furniture being dumped, call and have it removed.

WE ARE THE EYES AND EARS FOR THE POLICE. IT IS UP TO US TO KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SAFE!!!
