Distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America's roadways. In 2012 alone, 3,328 were killed in distracted driving crashes.
The U.S. Department of Transportation is leading the effort to stop texting and cell phone use behind the wheel. Since 2009, we have held two national distracted driving summits, banned texting and cell phone use for commercial drivers, encouraged states to adopt tough laws, and launched several campaigns to raise public awareness about the issue.
WHAT IS DISTRACTED DRIVING?
Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving. All distractions endanger driver, passenger, and bystander safety. These types of distractions include:
•Texting
•Using a cell phone or smartphone
•Eating and drinking
•Talking to passengers
•Grooming
•Reading, including maps
•Using a navigation system
•Watching a video
•Adjusting a radio, CD player, or MP3 player
But, because text messaging requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention from the driver, it is by far the most alarming distraction

According to the Los Angeles Superior Court On-Line Bail Schedule 2013, the fee for Driving While Texting (23123.5(a) Vehicle Code) is $20.00 plus penalty fees for a total of $169.00.

AT&T has a great Phone App called "AT&T DriveMode". Through the GPS on your phone, your car recognizes when you are in a car. Once your car reaches a speed higher than 25 mph the app activates so that you do not receive any phone call or text messages. It sends a message to the caller that you are driving and can not answer your phone and you will call them when you reach your destination. You can also register up to 5 emergency phone numbers in the APP so that these calls go through. Just be smart and pull over to answer these calls.
