Home Delivered Package Thefts Alert

It has been reported, a female with black hair, 5'05/150, in her 40's, wearing a striped shirt and blue jeans was recently seen in the North Hills area riding a blue beach cruiser bike w/basket stealing a Fed Ex package from a residence front porch.  She picked up the package, placed it into a plastic bin, and left the location.

If you see her or have any information please call Mission front desk at 818-838-9800.

This is one of many incidents where a suspect will steal a delivered package from one's front porch. Criminals will follow the delivery truck and wait for the package to be delivered.  They then run up to the door and steal it.

With online shopping becoming a more common thing this is something that will become more an issue.  But there are a few things one can do to prevent becoming a victim.  If the option is available, pick that someone must sign for the package when delivered. If you own a PO Box and the company allows it, have the package delivered there.  See if the company shipping will provide an estimate time of delivery so you or someone you trust can be at home when the package arrives.  If you don't have any way or anyone who can be home, another idea would be speak to a reliable neighbor or friend and have the package delivered to them if they are going to be home.

FYI - Possible LA Metro Water District Scam

It has been brought to our attention, from several community members, there are people going around the neighborhoods claiming to be from LA Metropolitan Water claiming they need to replace or install water pressure regulators.

The person will wear a tool belt and a badge to make themselves look like an "official" worker.  This is a very common tactic used by criminals to disguise themselves to get into your home or yard. This is something to be mindful and cautious about.

If you have any doubt if someone is from the Metro Water, get a business card, a badge or ID number, a name of a supervisor, and contact Metro Water to double check the validity of the person in question.  You can find your local office on there website (http://www.mwdh2o.com/WhoWeAre/Contact-Us/Pages/default.aspx) or contact Metro Water Headquarters at 213-217-6000.
The safety of our Neighborhood is not up to the Police...IT IS OURS!

It is up to everyone that lives in our community to watch out, not only for themselves but, for their neighbors. If you see cars that are parked and not moved for more than 72 hours call 311 and report it. If you see any vandalism, PLEASE report it. If you see someone that obviously doesn't belong or is doing something they shouldn't be, PLEASE report it. Lets keep our neighborhood clean, if you see furniture being dumped, call and have it removed.
