Earthquake Preparedness

Prepare for an Earthquake
  • Become aware of fire evacuation and earthquake safety plans for all of the buildings you occupy regularly.
  • Pick safe places in each room of your home, workplace and/or school. A safe place could be under a piece of furniture or against an interior wall away from windows, bookcases or tall furniture that could fall on you.
  • Practice “drop, cover and hold on” in each safe place. If you do not have sturdy furniture to hold on to, sit on the floor next to an interior wall and cover your head and neck with your arms.
  • Keep a flashlight and sturdy shoes by each person’s bed in case the earthquake strikes in the middle of the night.
  • Make sure your home is securely anchored to its foundation.
  • Bolt and brace water heaters and gas appliances to wall studs.
  • Bolt bookcases, china cabinets and other tall furniture to wall studs.
  • Hang heavy items, such as pictures and mirrors, away from beds, couches and anywhere people sleep or sit.
  • Brace overhead light fixtures.
  • Install strong latches or bolts on cabinets. Large or heavy items should be closest to the floor.
  • Learn how to shut off the gas valves in your home and keep a wrench handy for that purpose.
  • Learn about your area’s seismic building standards and land use codes before you begin new construction.
  • Keep and maintain an emergency supplies kit in an easy-to-access location.

3RD ROW SEAT THEFTS

THEFT FROM VEHICLE PREVENTION TIPS
3RD ROW SEAT THEFTS

Don’t be a Victim. Lock your 3rd row seats

*Thieves target Chevy, Cadillac, and GMC full size SUVs and stealing the 3rd row seat.
*The thieves break into the vehicles, unlatch the seats and take the 3rd row seat.
*The seats are made to be easily removable and are a valuable addition to these SUVs.
*The inherent cost of these seats makes it a desirable item for thieves.
*Auto Detectives encourage SUV owners to secure your 3rd row seats by investing in a simple bicycle cable lock and locking it to the vehicle’s floor board. Engrave it with an identifiable number (i.e. vehicle’s VIN number). Or if you do not use your 3rd row seat, secure it by taking it out and store it at home. This will make your 3rd row seat less desirable for the thieves.

Auto Detectives would like to encourage you to SECURE IT, ENGRAVE IT, or REMOVE IT.
The safety of our Neighborhood is not up to the Police...IT IS OURS!

It is up to everyone that lives in our community to watch out, not only for themselves but, for their neighbors. If you see cars that are parked and not moved for more than 72 hours call 311 and report it. If you see any vandalism, PLEASE report it. If you see someone that obviously doesn't belong or is doing something they shouldn't be, PLEASE report it. Lets keep our neighborhood clean, if you see furniture being dumped, call and have it removed.
